On May 29, Gov. Henry McMaster ceremonially signed two bills that provide protections for minors in South Carolina. He and others offered remarks about the importance of these bills, while surrounded by sponsors and supporters. The first law signed, H. 4624, was sponsored by Rep. Davey Hiott and is named the “Help, Not Harm” bill. It will protect youth under age 18 from chemically and physically altering their bodies with cross-sex hormones, puberty blockers and sex change operations for the sake of appearing more like the opposite sex. The Catholic Conference is thankful that children will be protected from this malpractice and allowed to healthily experience puberty. We thank all who made the passage of this bill a reality. The second bill, H. 3424, was sponsored by Rep. Travis Moore. It will require websites that host pornographic content to verify the ages of its patrons. The Catholic Conference thanks all who were involved in the passage of this bill. |
