Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children
Today, we remember the anniversary of the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade to make abortion legal across our country. With this decision and the culture of death due that led to it, millions of lives have been lost through abortion.
Human lives continue to be lost even after the SCOTUS decision to overturn Roe v. Wade with Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization in 2022. And so, we must still pray for an end to abortion, for the legal protection of all unborn human persons, including those who have been created using infertility treatments. We affirm that life begins at the moment of conception. We must honor those lives with the dignity and respect they deserve as beautiful and unique children of God.
Let us pray for the grace to see clearly the current threats against human life. St. John Paul II said, “… Not only is the fact of the destruction of so many human lives still to be born or in their final stage extremely grave and disturbing, but no less grave and disturbing is the fact that conscience itself, darkened as it were by such widespread conditioning, is finding it increasingly difficult to distinguish between good and evil in what concerns the basic value of human life” (Evangelium Vitae).
Please join the South Carolina Catholic Conference and the Universal Church in prayer and fasting for an end to the evil of abortion; for all human life to be valued and cherished at every stage. Let us also pray for the safety of all those who will stand for life in our nation’s capital during the March for Life this weekend.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the unborn, pray for us!
