Director of the South Carolina Catholic Conference, Michael F. Acquilano, released a statement urging Gov. Henry McMaster to use his authority to grant clemency for Richard B. Moore.
Moore is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection Friday, Nov. 1.
“We implore you to exercise the profound authority entrusted to you to issue a stay of execution and spare the life of Mr. Moore,” the statement reads. “We pray that you act on that authority now and preserve life and uphold human dignity.”

The Catholic Conference remains hopeful that the governor will issue a stay of execution for Mr. Moore. We continue to work toward the abolition of the death penalty in South Carolina and the nation.
