On Thursday, the House Constitutional Laws Subcommittee will meet to discuss H. 3558, which would repeal the Blaine Amendment from our state constitution.
The Blaine Amendment was designed and adopted by some of the most infamous racists in our state’s history to stop the Catholic Church from educating freed Black people and immigrants. But, this law is not just a disgraceful relic of the past. It continues to perpetuate injustice by blocking state funds to Catholic and other non-public schools that educate underserved and underprivileged children.
It is time for the Palmetto State to make amends for its past and pursue a future of justice and equality for our children. Click HERE to send a letter of support to the committee.
