On June 13, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the Federal Drug Administration’s decision to approve the abortion pill is constitutional. SCOTUS determined that the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine did not sufficiently prove chemical abortion drugs to be harmful to women’s health. The abortion pill will continue to end the lives of preborn children and put women and girls at risk.
The abortion pill, also known as chemical abortion, involves taking two pills. The first damages a mother’s uterine lining, causing the baby to die by suffocation. The second pill is taken 24-48 hours after the first and causes the body to expel the remains. Chemical abortion has led to dangerous outcomes for women, and despite this, chemical abortions make up the majority of the abortions in the United States.
In a statement, Bishop Michael Burbidge of Arlington, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Pro-Life Activities, encouraged the faithful to continue to pray for the health and safety of women and preborn children.
“From my heart, I thank all of the faithful who joined Archbishop Broglio and myself in prayer regarding this important case,” the statement read. “We will continue to pray, to advocate for the health and safety of women and the preborn, and to lovingly serve mothers in need so that they may feel prepared to welcome their children.”
The Catholic Conference urges people of good will across the Palmetto State to pray and fast for the end of all forms of abortion in our nation. Thank you to everyone who joined in the U.S. Bishop’s prayer campaign. Please know that our prayers are not wasted — God’s will is accomplished in his perfect timing.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the preborn, pray for us!
