By another 3-2 split, the South Carolina Supreme Court refused requests from Gov. Henry McMaster and state Superintendent Ellen Weaver for a rehearing on the constitutionality of the Education Scholarship Trust Fund (ESTF).
“After careful consideration of the petitions for rehearing,” the two-sentence denial read, “the Court is unable to discover that any material fact or principle of law has been overlooked or disregarded, and hence, there is no basis for granting rehearing. Accordingly, the petitions for rehearing are denied.”
The Diocese of Charleston is in the process of raising funds for the 195 students in Catholic schools that were recipients of the ESTF program. The diocese values each child and respects the choices of parents to send their children to one of our schools. Stability is crucial for children’s development, and Catholic schools in South Carolina will not abandon these families.
St. Rita said, “Have courage to face challenges head-on, knowing that God is with you every step of the way.” She is the patroness of impossible causes, and so the St. Rita Relief Fund for our ESTF children is named in her honor.
