Yesterday, the S.C. House Judiciary Committee passed S.120: lethal injection secrecy, by a 14-5 vote. The House is set to take the bill up for debate soon.
This legislation removes all licensing processes for the chemicals used to execute human beings. It violates all principles of transparency by blocking Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to procurement procedures. Most importantly, S.120 would subject human persons to receive unlicensed, untested and unauthorized chemicals.
S. 120 is egregiously inhumane and perpetuates a culture of death and injustice. Capital punishment is an attack on the fundamental dignity of human life and the inviolability of rights.
