The Diocese of Charleston received notice that the Cristo Rey Network has granted permission for the Charleston community to resume the feasibility study for the first school in South Carolina. The study began in 2019 but was put on hold due to COVID-19.
The Cristo Rey Network is a national organization that provides quality Catholic education to underserved communities. The schools are unique in that they utilize a corporate work/study program that enables students to gain valuable work experience while earning tuition.
The network’s board of directors has approved this important step of resuming efforts to establish the Cristo Rey School in Charleston with the support of Bishop Jacques Fabre-Jeune, CS, plus the operational viability of the state’s new ESA school choice program and the shared interest to provide Catholic education to underserved areas.
The addition of a Cristo Rey School will enhance the educational opportunities for teens and provide them with valuable vocational skills that can lead to future success. We believe that this school could make a significant impact on the lives of young people and families in our communities.
We are incredibly excited to receive this news and to explore the feasibility of the project. We will keep you updated and ask for your prayers and support as we work to bring this important initiative to fruition.
Thank you for your continued commitment to Catholic education and the well-being of students and families.
