Today is a win for life in South Carolina! By an 82-33 vote, the S.C. House of Representatives passed the S. 474: the Fetal Heartbeat Act last night after nearly 24 hours of floor debate.
The House passed the bill on second reading at 9:25 p.m., and after a 15-minute break, the House came to order for the third and final reading.
Rep. John McCravy, president of the House Family Caucus, released the following statement:
“This bill is the best pro-life bill we can pass in South Carolina at this moment in time … [This bill] will not only save thousands of lives, it will prevent South Carolina from becoming a destination state for abortion.”
The Catholic Conference thanks our pro-life legislators for their resolve and commitment to defending the unborn. Click HERE to send a letter of gratitude to your representative.
The Senate is set to take the bill up on the floor next week. We call upon the Senate to concur and send the bill to Gov. Henry McMaster’s desk.
